Friends School of Portland

Cumberland, Maine

Objective

To design, permit and construct a new school building for up to 125 Pre-K through 8th grade students with two parking areas, sidewalks, basketball court and multiple play fields.

BCE Role

Provided construction documentation, construction administration and regulatory permitting. The Friends School chose this property in part because of its abundant natural resources, including the streams and forested areas. The design intent was to limit development to a concise area close to US Route 1, leaving the remainder of the site in its natural state. The undeveloped property consists of woods, freshwater wetlands and a portion of Norton Brook. With two streams converging, developable space outside the 75' stream buffer was limited, but workable.
